The
Natural Habitat of the highly endangered Nilgiri
Tahr, Rajamallay is at the foothills of the Anaimudi
peak, the highest peak in South India, which is
at an elevation of 2695 meters above mean sea
level. The outstanding feature of the region is
that once in 12 years the Kurinji (Strobylanthus-Kunthianus)
blooms, carpeting the slopes of the hills with
a profusion of mauve blossoms. This area is also
home to many other species of wildlife.
